February 2, 2011 Water Project Update

Lots of activity on the Uraki water project since the holidays.

After a few rounds of clarifications, the topographical engineering study is completed with a complete project layout ready to be started.  The water line has over 60 demarcated points to ensure proper direction and flow.  There are three spurs to the water line, the primary one running all the way to Uraki School, where there will be a 45 cubic meter holding tank of water for the primary and secondary schools!  The second line will serve the Kilala community and the third line will serve a neighboring community to Kilala.  All in total, over 5,000 residents and students will have fresh drinking water available at all times!

From a fundraising standpoint, we are so appreciative of all of the support that we have received.  No matter how small the donations are, every single dollar makes a big impact.  We have raised $80,000 of the $125,000 needed, so there is still a lot of work to be done on our part spreading the word.  We hope that a few corporate donors will help push us over the top.  We are also looking for support from some of the larger local organizations in Tanzania who will directly benefit from the water line.

We are also in the interviewing and selection phase for a local Project manager.  The job description that we are hiring to is attached to the bottom of this post.  Interested parties should submit their resumes to summit4water@gmail.com

Our team will be back on the ground in Tanzania for the hopeful beginning of the digging during the first week of March, 2011.  More posts and pictures will follow.
